Poem: Walls

trowel-6.jpg
Today I went on a Race and Racism course for work, so it seems appropriate to post this one.

The differences between people can stimulate dialogue, and that dialogue can lead to understanding.

According to my notes I started writing it on 6th May 1993, then finished it off a year later on 16th May 1994.

Walls

We are united
In love there is unity
But also in fear.

We are united
Because we share all we fear
So we build these walls.

We are united
By these walls placed between us
Common to us all.

Never united
And yet we’re united still
By disunity.

Not yet united
We begin to look for love
But love finds us first.

At last together
Love conquers all hating.
Now, the walls come down.
